The Mount Shasta Trail Association (MSTA) recognizes the following federal agency, entities, groups, and organizations for making the Gateway Trail System possible through land management, professional expertise, volunteerism, manual labor, and generous contributions.

U.S. Forest Service, Shasta-Trinity National Forest

The Gateway Trail System is located on the Shasta–Trinity National Forest, which is the largest national forest in California, encompassing 2.2 million acres.

The Shasta McCloud Management Unit is based in Mount Shasta and contains the Mount Shasta and McCloud Ranger Districts. The unit encompasses approximately 800,000 acres. The Gateway Trail System is included as part of the National Forest System Trails. The Shasta McCloud Management Unit manages approximately 140 miles of NFS trails and 145 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail meanders through the unit.

The Forest Service’s mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations.

McConnell Foundation

The McConnell Foundation is an independent foundation located in Redding, California. As a broad-based funder, they have awarded grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, public education, and government entities located primarily in Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity Counties in rural Northern California, and the countries of Nepal and Laos.

California Natural Resources Agency

The California Natural Resources Agency oversees and supports more than 26 distinct departments, conservancies, and commissions.

More than 19,000 Californians work within the agency all across the state to restore, protect and manage the state's natural, historical and cultural resources for current and future generations using creative approaches and solutions based on science, collaboration, and respect for all the communities and interests involved.

Mount Shasta Mountain Bike Association

The Mount Shasta Mountain Bike Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to building and maintaining high quality trails for the Northern California community. It is their goal to provide sustainable, trail-based recreational opportunities which provide access to the unique natural landscape of the Mount Shasta area.

Friesen Foundation

Launched in 2019, the Friesen Foundation is a private independent foundation dedicated to supporting a broad range of community development projects, including outdoor recreation, environmental restoration, public health, civic planning, and cultural arts.

Trail Labs Co.

Trail Labs is rider-owned, rider-operated business located in Mount Shasta, California. They are a team of multidisciplinary professionals with backgrounds in watershed management, fisheries biology, construction engineering, recreation planning, and various trades.

Their mission is to improve community health, well-being, and economic vitality through the creation of high quality, destination-level trails and bike parks for our region of Northern California, and Southern Oregon.

Deadwood Crew

Located in Scott Valley, Deadwood Conservation Camp is one of 35 similar camps positioned throughout California. Established in 1946, the Conservation Camp program is a partnership between the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The voluntary program is an opportunity for low-risk inmates to shorten sentence time, learn job skills, and provide valuable public services. When not protecting California from wildfires and floods, the crews work on projects for government and municipal agencies and eligible non-profit organizations. 

Community Foundation of the North State

 

The Community Foundation of the North State is a nonprofit, public charity serving the people of Shasta, Siskiyou and Tehama counties, with a mission to impact the region through the power of giving.

 

Siskiyou Land Trust

 

Siskiyou Land Trust is a community based non-profit organization that strives to protect open space, ranch and farmlands, forest and wetlands, natural beauty and wildlife habitat in Siskiyou County in the very top of the state of California.

 

Alpineworks Consulting

 

Alpineworks Consulting provides land use planning services, environmental compliance, and project management to municipalities, special districts, private industry, and non-profits throughout northern California.

 

Quercus Consultants

 

Quercus Consultants is an environmental consultancy specializing in environmental sciences and planning, natural resources management, project permitting, and mitigation monitoring services.

 

Mountain Runners

 

Mountain Runners formed in the early ‘80s with the mission of creating an event (the Mt. Shasta 4th of July Run) that not only allowed runners to share their love of the sport, but also promoted the health of the community. In 2018, Mountain Runners became one of the founding projects in creating Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance.

 

Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance

 

Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance (SORA) advocates for opportunities for all to access outdoor recreation—and creates meaningful and responsible connections to the trails, mountains, forests, rivers, lakes, and landscapes of the Shasta-Siskiyou region of Northern California.

 

Pusher

 

Pusher provides honest video production and editing. They’re based in Dunsmuir, California and serve a range of clients, including UNICEF, Community Foundation of the North State, and Discover Siskiyou.

 

Shasta Gravity Adventures

 

Shasta Gravity Adventures is a mountain bike business creating opportunities for shuttles, guided rides, skills clinics, and trail building support.
